TAXI
By Patricia Toht
It’s the day in the life of a busy taxi cab! There are plenty of passengers to pick up, and they all need a ride – to a football game, a play, a business meeting, an airport and more. Whizzing left, right and through the traffic, Taxi takes on the town and navigates everything the road throws at him. Taxi … stop! Now, Taxi … GO! With energy and exuberance, Patricia Toht and Maria Karipidou create a detail-rich and happy world that vehicle-loving children will adore.
MAKING OF: TAXI
SKETCHES
Patricia’s story begins with this rhyme, where she takes us into the start of a day with TAXI! I also start with lines in my drawings, but with completely different ones: the drawn lines ^_^ The lines help me – after I have worked out different possible shapes – to get closer to the character of little red TAXI.
CREATING THE CHARACTER
What should the lively little cab be like? Hm, quite clearly: it should be somehow energetic and full of power. After all, it needs a lot of power to get through a working day with lots of short and long journeys! But it should also be friendly so that people like to get in it, right? Yes, definitely! And how is that supposed to work? How does “friendly” work? What does “energetic” look like?
COLOUR
What a difference colours can make! Everything has its time, and sometimes it is better not to decide on what colours to stick right at the beginning of the process. Otherwise TAXI would have turned out to be yellow instead of red. Unthinkable! 🙂
